Step back in time for A Night at the Sock-Hopera, Amelia Island Opera's annual Fundraiser in collaboration with Amelia Community Theatre. A highlight of Amelia Island Opera's Season 6: From Page to Stage, the evening features Gian Carlo Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief—a witty comic opera originally written for radio before making its way to the stage. The story follows two lonely women whose quiet lives are turned upside down by the arrival of a mysterious and handsome stranger, leading to a whirlwind of gossip, temptation, and mistaken appearances. Menotti's sparkling score is paired with a lively collection of beloved 1950s favorites, celebrating one of America's most iconic musical eras. The production welcomes three Amelia Island Opera debut artists: baritone Jesse Malgieri as Bob, soprano McKenna Slack as Laetitia, and contralto Emily Geller as Miss Todd. They are joined by Amelia Island Opera Co-Founder and audience favorite Robyn Lamp as Miss Pinkerton. Amelia Island Opera is also proud to introduce its inaugural Young Artist, Bethany Griffin, whose participation marks an exciting new chapter in the company's commitment to developing the next generation of performers. Returning after his triumphant Amelia Island Opera debut in last season's Divas of Old Hollywood, pianist Arthur Bosarge will serve as both pianist and Music Director for the production, bringing his artistry and musical leadership to this unique collaboration. The festivities begin with a nostalgic cocktail hour before the curtain rises on an evening filled with laughter, memorable music, and theatrical charm.
