As the first couples arrive for the anniversary party of New York’s deputy mayor and his wife, they find the mayor bleeding and the wife and servants gone. Confusion and misunderstanding spin into hilarity as the couples attempt to “get the story straight.”

The starlet, Lina Lamon, and her leading man, Don Lockwood, are the hottest item on the silent screen.  Now the studio wants them to do “talking pictures.” Lina’s squeaky voice might be the end of their careers without the help of a talented young actress to do the talking and singing for her.
